MAROONS FC FALL 2-1 TO BLACKS POWER AT WANKULUKUKU
Maroons FC suffered a 2-1 defeat to Blacks Power on Tuesday after the visitors came from behind to claim all three points in a closely contested Uganda Premier League Matchday Three encounter at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
Maroons started brightly and created several good opportunities before finally breaking the deadlock in the 38th minute.
Young midfielder Ismail Ali put the Jailers ahead after a positive attacking spell, giving Maroons a deserved lead before the break.
The hosts had chances to extend their advantage. Jackson Nunda released Marvin Oshaba through on goal, but the forward narrowly missed an opportunity to lift the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.
Nunda also came close moments later, only for his effort to be blocked by a Blacks Power defender.
Maroons went into the break leading 1-0 but were unable to maintain their advantage after the restart.
Blacks Power levelled in the 47th minute through Andrea Ogwal, who produced a fine turn before beating goalkeeper Derrick Ochan.
The visitors continued to press and completed the comeback in the 66th minute when Richard Otim scored to put Blacks Power 2-1 ahead.
Maroons head coach Umar Abdallah Loi responded with a triple substitution in the 76th minute, bringing on Ronald Orombi, Kevin Ssekimbega and Darius Ojok for Abel Michael Eturude, Brian Nkuubi and Baden Ogama.
The Jailers pushed for an equaliser but could not find a way through as Blacks Power held on for victory.
The result leaves Maroons with three points from their opening three league matches, following a defeat to URA FC, a 3-1 win over Ntugasaze FC and Tuesday's loss to Blacks Power.
For Blacks Power, the victory maintains their perfect start to the season and extends their early advantage over Maroons in the league standings.
Maroons will now turn their attention to their next fixture as they look to recover from the defeat and return to winning ways.
Maroons Starting XI: Derrick Ochan, Fredrick Nicholas Kigozi, Patrick Bayiga, Baden Ogama, Abel Michael Eturude, Hillary Onegi, Marvin Oshaba, Ismail Ali, Jackson Nunda, Brian Nkuubi and Jamal Ssemwogerere.
