MAROONS FC STRENGTHEN SQUAD AS NEW SEASON GATHERS PACE
KAMPALA, September 8, 2026 — Maroons FC have strengthened their squad ahead of a busy 2026/27 Uganda Premier League season, with the club welcoming back familiar faces, extending key contracts, signing new players and promoting young talent.
The Jailers have renewed the contracts of captain Edward Kabona, goalkeeper Amir Nalugoda and Ronald Orombi, with each player signing a two-year extension.
Maroons have also brought back Fred Amaku on loan until mid-season with a better option of a permanent stay. The striker returns after spells with Kitara and URA, where he gained valuable Uganda Premier League experience and developed a reputation for finding the back of the net.
Defender Patrick Bayiga has also returned to the Luzira-based side from NEC FC on a one-year deal, adding experience to the defensive department.
The club has further strengthened its goalkeeping and defensive options with the arrival of Kevin Ssekimbega from CATDA FC, goalkeeper Derrick Were from Calvary FC and goalkeeper Derrick Ochan from URA.
Young Talent Joins the Squad
In line with FUFA requirements on youth players, Maroons have also added a group of promising young players.
The additions include Ismail Ali, 18, from Express FC; Kyagenda Shaban, 15, from Butambala Ssaza; Ashraf Kavuma, 20, from Masaka Sunshine; Habib Kintu, 17, from Vipers SA; and Lameka Tamale, 19, who has been promoted from the Maroons junior team.
The young players are expected to provide fresh energy and increase competition for places within the squad while gaining valuable experience alongside established players.
The squad changes come as Maroons continue their campaign in the new season. The Jailers opened with a 2-1 defeat to URA FC before responding with a 3-1 victory over Ntugasaze FC, with Jackson Nunda scoring twice and Marvin Oshaba adding the other goal from the penalty spot.
Three Players Move On
Meanwhile, Maroons FC have confirmed the departure of three players following the expiry of their contracts.
Ivan Mayanja and Rogers Kiwanuka have joined Police FC, while Apollo Kagogwe has moved to fellow league newcomers Ntugasaze FC.
The club has wished the three players success in their new chapters.
With a blend of experienced players, returning faces, new signings and emerging young talent, Maroons are building a squad designed to compete strongly as the 2026/27 season continues.
The Jailers next face Blacks Power FC on Tuesday, September 8, at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku, in a Matchday Three encounter that presents another opportunity to build momentum.
