MAROONS FACE BLACKS POWER IN BATTLE TO REWRITE HISTORY
KAMPALA, September 7, 2026 — Maroons FC return to Uganda Premier League action on Tuesday with a chance to rewrite a difficult chapter in their recent history when they host unbeaten Blacks Power FC at Mutesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
Kick-off is at 4:00pm, with the Jailers looking to build on their impressive 3-1 victory over Ntugasaze FC and claim their first home win of the 2026/27 campaign.
Maroons go into the Matchday Three encounter sixth on the table with three points from two matches. They opened the season with a 2-1 defeat to URA FC before recovering strongly against Ntugasaze, where Jackson Nunda scored twice and Marvin Oshaba converted from the penalty spot.
Blacks Power, meanwhile, arrive in Kampala with maximum points from their opening two matches. The newly promoted side has defeated both Ntugasaze and Uganda Police FC by identical 1-0 margins, keeping clean sheets in both games.
That defensive discipline presents a major test for Maroons' attack, which has already scored four goals this season.
But Tuesday's contest carries an additional layer of importance for the Jailers.
Maroons have never beaten Blacks Power in the Uganda Premier League.
The two previous top-flight meetings ended in defeats for Maroons — a 1-0 loss away to Blacks Power in April 2023 and a 3-1 defeat at Wankulukuku in November 2022.
With the historical record favouring the visitors, Maroons will be determined to produce a different result this time around.
Head coach Umar Abdallah Loi is fully aware of the challenge but believes his players are ready for the contest.
“We are fully aware of the history against Blacks Power. They have started the season very well and will come here organised and dangerous,” Umar said.
The coach has called for intensity and concentration from his players, particularly with Blacks Power having demonstrated their ability to win tight matches.
For Maroons midfielder Abel Michael Eturude, the historical record provides additional motivation rather than fear.
“We know the record and it is something we want to change,” Eturude said.
The midfielder expects patience and quick ball movement to be crucial against a Blacks Power side that has conceded no goal in its opening two matches.
Team News
Maroons will be without goalkeeper Amir Nalugoda, who has not fully recovered from the injury that forced him off against Ntugasaze.
Captain Edward Kabona will also miss the match through suspension following his red card in the previous fixture.
There is, however, a boost for the Jailers with Ronald Orombi and Hillary Adima returning to the Matchday squad after missing the opening two league fixtures while representing Uganda Prisons Service at the Interforces Games in Gulu.
The rest of the squad is available for selection.
The return of Orombi and Adima gives the technical team additional options as Maroons seek to maintain the attacking momentum generated in their previous outing.
A Test of Ambition
Tuesday's encounter will be more than another early-season league fixture for Maroons.
It is an opportunity to demonstrate that the victory over Ntugasaze was not an isolated response to the opening-day defeat, but the beginning of a consistent run of performances under Umar.
With Blacks Power yet to concede a goal, Maroons will need to combine their attacking intent with patience and defensive discipline.
A victory would move the Jailers closer to the leading pack while also ending Blacks Power's perfect start.
For the supporters, it could also mark the beginning of a new chapter in the rivalry.
