THE CAPTAINS NOTES AHEAD OF THE VIPERS TIE
Since last Friday's game against KCCA, I have not got the occasion to speak to our fans until now. On behalf of the team, I express our immense gratitude to you for the support and getting behind the team in what was a sweet victory. This was an epitome of how together we are as a club. All of us, we all contribute. We all play our part. We are such an impressive collective. Bravo!
However, the first recipe for our success is to avoid too protracted musings on the past. The Premier League season is long and unforgiving and there is no time to rest on our laurels.
The best way to forget the past is to build new memories and we will look to do just that this Friday, as we will face one of Africa’s best teams, Vipers SC. They, fortnight or so ago, qualified for the CAF champions league group stage and the became only the second Ugandan team to achieve it – we recognise this and we respect it absolutely.
They will definitely pose a different challenge altogether, playing in front of their home fans and looking to get their domestic season off and running.
As Maroons, what we cannot and should not do, though, is lose sight of our own qualities and our own potential. We have enough quality in our ra
nks to give them a run for their money. Deviating away from this would not make any sense and would just make things easier for our opponents. We owe it to ourselves and to our supporters to aim to be the very best that we can be and the best way of doing this is by showing belief and being incredibly brave and so far, we have showed WE CAN!!
So, while we should not obliterate the setbacks and the disappointments that we have had, we cannot allow them to define who we are. We are Maroons!!
COME ON, MAROONS!!
